The detail behind the number
Non-medical home care -- help with bathing, meals, companionship -- is generally private pay in Indiana; Medicare does not cover it. Medicare-covered home health is a different, narrower benefit: intermittent, physician-ordered, skilled visits like nursing or physical therapy, not a caregiver who stays with your parent all day. Families often start at 10-15 hours a week and are surprised how quickly the hours climb as needs increase. Redo the math every few months rather than assuming the original weekly-hours estimate still holds, since it rarely does for more than a season.
