Short answer

The CareScout Cost of Care Survey, the most widely cited source for senior care pricing, does not survey memory care as a separate category anywhere. Every memory care price you find online is therefore an estimate, an average of self-reported figures, or an extrapolation from assisted living data.

Why no reliable memory care price exists

We could publish a number. It would get traffic. It would also be made up, and families make six-figure decisions on these pages.

How to get a real number

  1. Ask for the all-in monthly cost at your parent's current assessed care level, in writing.
  2. Ask what triggers a move to the next care level and what that costs.
  3. Ask for the rate increase history for the last three years.

Questions families ask

What should I do if someone is in immediate danger?

Call 911 first. Adult Protective Services is not an emergency responder and does not dispatch immediate help -- it investigates reports after the fact. Use 911 for anything urgent, then follow up with APS or the ombudsman as appropriate.

Who has to report suspected elder abuse in Indiana?

Indiana is a mandatory-reporting state: anyone who suspects neglect, battery, or exploitation of an endangered adult (18 or older, incapacitated, and harmed or threatened) is required to report it, not just healthcare or facility staff.

My parent is being discharged from an Indianapolis hospital in 72 hours. What now?

Ask the case manager for the discharge plan in writing, confirm whether your parent was admitted as an inpatient or held under observation status (only inpatient stays count toward Medicare's skilled-nursing benefit), and ask which facilities have actually accepted the referral -- not just which ones were contacted.

Does Medicare pay for a nursing home stay after a hospitalization?

Medicare covers a limited skilled-nursing-facility stay only after a qualifying inpatient hospital admission, for rehabilitation, not long-term placement. Time spent under observation status does not count, even after multiple nights in a hospital bed -- ask the hospital directly which status applies.
